{"id":4,"date":"2016-11-03T17:11:37","date_gmt":"2016-11-03T16:11:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?page_id=4"},"modified":"2026-08-30T19:28:50","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T17:28:50","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The American Friends of the Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance is a non-profit organization established in 2011 with the purpose of furthering the mission of the Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance (<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?page_id=12\">D\u00d6W<\/a>), fostering dialogue between the D\u00d6W and North American scholars, and promoting scholarly research in Austrian contemporary history, cultural studies and political science relating to Austria, with a special focus on the Nazi era.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The D\u00d6W, located in Vienna, is one of the Republic of Austria&#8217;s most important institutes for the study of National Socialism and a major repository for documents, books, articles and data bases concerning Austria under Nazi rule and the aftermath of Nazism in the Second Austrian Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>GSA Panel: \u201cCompeting Narratives of Victimhood and Responsibility in Austria\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>GSA Conference, September 28, 2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From September 24 to 27, 2026, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegsa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">German Studies Association<\/a>&nbsp;will hold its 50th anniversary conference in Phoenix, Arizona (USA). The Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance (D\u00d6W) and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Friends of D\u00d6W<\/a>&nbsp;are organizing a panel on the Austrian victimhood narrative, responsibility for Nazi crimes, and other aspects of the culture of remembrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winfried R. Garscha will speak about the writings of former SA leader Alfred Persche in post-war Austria.
