This year\u2019s prize was awarded to Michal Shapira<\/strong> for her book, Sigmund Freud and his Patient Margarethe Csonka. A Case of Homosexuality in a Woman in Modern Vienna<\/em> (Routledge). Laudatio<\/a> by Margarete Lamb-Faffelberger.<\/p>\n

2023<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s prize was awarded to Brett E. Sterling<\/strong>\u00a0(University of Arkansas)<\/span> for his book,\u00a0\u201cHermann Broch and Mass Hysteria. Theory and Representation in the Age of Extremes<\/a>\u201d (Boydell & Brewer \/ Camden House<\/span>, 2022). In 2022 the prize committee again awarded two prizes:<\/p>\n

To Zachary Doleshal<\/strong> for his book \u201cIn the Kingdom of Shoes<\/a>. Bata, Zl\u00edn, Globalization, 1894\u20131945\u201d (University of Toronto Press, 2021), and<\/p>\n

to Chad Bryant<\/strong> for his book \u201cPrague: Belonging and the Modern City<\/a>\u201d (Harvard University Press, 2021).<\/p>\n

The prizes were awarded during the Forty-Sixth Annual Conference of the German Studies Association. The laudations can be read here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because no prize had been awarded in 2019, the prize committee awarded two prizes in 2020:<\/p>\n
