{"id":410,"date":"2019-08-16T23:50:02","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T21:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?p=410"},"modified":"2019-08-16T23:50:02","modified_gmt":"2019-08-16T21:50:02","slug":"last-call-radomir-luza-prize-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?p=410","title":{"rendered":"Last Call: Radomir Luza Prize 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <i>American Friends of the Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance<\/i> and <i>Center Austria: the Austrian Marshall Plan Center for European Studies of the University of New Orleans <\/i>are pleased to announce this year\u2019s Radomir Luza Prize. The prize has been awarded since 2012 for an outstanding work in the field of Austrian and\/or Czecho-Slovak studies before, during and immediately after the Nazi rule in Central Europe, particularly in the fields of diplomatic history, resistance and World War II studies. Since 2017 the prize is being bestowed by the German Studies Association (GSA). This prize carries a cash award of $1,000.00 financed by the <i>Zukunftsfonds der Republik<\/i> <i>\u00d6sterreich<\/i>. It seeks to encourage research in the abovementioned fields focusing on the time period of the 1930s and 1940s.<\/p>\n<p>The prize is named after Radom\u00edr Lu\u017ea, born 1922 in Prague, \u010cSR, deceased 2009 in Philadelphia, PA. Lu\u017ea was a resistance fighter against Nazi dictatorship in occupied Czechoslovakia 1939-1945, US historian and author of the first comprehensive history of resistance in Austria 1938-1945. From 1967 through 1993 Radom\u00edr Lu\u017ea was professor for European and German history at Tulane University. For more biographical data cf. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?page_id=66\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Radom\u00edr Lu\u017ea: Biography<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility for the Luza Prize 2019:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Books or dissertations which have been published (or a dissertation defended) between January 1 and December 31, 2018. Authors must be citizens or resident aliens (holders of \u201cgreen cards\u201d) of the United States or Canada. Dissertations must have been awarded by a North American University. The language of the work must be English.<\/p>\n<p>To be considered for the Radomir Luza Prize competition, please send a copy of your work electronically to <a href=\"mailto:gjbischo@uno.edu?subject=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gjbischo@uno.edu<\/a> and <a href=\"mailto:winfried.garscha@doew.at?subject=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">winfried.garscha@doew.at<\/a>. The <strong>deadline<\/strong> for submissions (August 27) is being extended by one week to <strong>September 3, 2019<\/strong>.
