{"id":490,"date":"2022-08-10T15:45:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-10T13:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?p=490"},"modified":"2022-08-10T15:45:38","modified_gmt":"2022-08-10T13:45:38","slug":"announcement-scientific-director-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.austrianresistance.org\/?p=490","title":{"rendered":"Announcement: Scientific Director Position"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance seeks\na Scientific Director beginning 1\/1\/2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Documentation Center of Austrian Resistance (hereafter\nD\u00d6W), supported by the Republic of Austria and the City of Vienna, was established\nin 1963 by former resistance fighters as well as by dedicated scholars, and has\nbeen an official Foundation since 1983. The central topics of interest include research\nand communication regarding resistance and persecution in Austria from 1933 to\n1938, and from 1938 through 1945; the Holocaust; Roma and Sinti; exile; Nazi\nmedical crimes; Nazi and postwar justice; right wing extremism and antisemitism\nafter 1945; and restitution and compensation after 1945.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the work of the D\u00d6W includes gathering\nthematically relevant sources; scientifically organizing; and archiving them.\nThe D\u00d6W maintains an archive and library comprising extensive collections and\ndata sets, used in consultative services to students and researchers;\njournalists; and other interested parties. The D\u00d6W dedicates itself to the\ncommunication of contemporary material to young students in particular, but\nalso to adult education. The latter is supported by a permanent exhibit space\nand two memorials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scientific manager\/director is responsible for the\nstrategic vision of the D\u00d6W, leading its managers and staff, including\nbudgeting in accordance with Article 10 of the founding charter of the D\u00d6W. Likewise,\nthe director is responsible for the D\u00d6W\u2019s research projects; conceiving of proposals;\nand the acquisition of third-party funds for research and development projects\non a domestic, European, and transnational basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These activities proceed in close collaboration with\nthe Foundation Committee (Stiftungsrat), its Foundation Chair, and the\nAssociation Chair of the D\u00d6W (Vereinsvorstand). There is also collaboration\nwith victims\u2019 and concentration camp organizations, as well as research\ninstitutes and societies domestically and abroad. The scientific\nmanager\/director represents the D\u00d6W in the domestic and international\nscientific community, in various advisory groups and before the public and the\nmedia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Position Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Experience in leading a scientific or academic\ninstitution. Managerial talent and experience (business leadership, financial\nplanning, account maintenance, supervision of personnel; and internal and\nexternal representation). [Weighting: 30%]<\/li><li>Knowledge of Austrian educational and research\nstructures, experience in political relations and administration. [Weighting:\n10%]<\/li><li>Leadership qualities, teamwork, social competence, well\ndeveloped communications skills, and experience in media relations. [Weighting:\n10%]<\/li><li>Internationally recognized archival, documentary,\nreporting and research activity in the area of contemporary history; and\nspecifically contemporary Austrian history including: resistance against the\nNazi regime; Nazi persecution for racist and\/or political reasons (in\nparticular, of Jews, national and religious minorities, and Roma and Sinti);\nNazi crimes; the Nazi movement in Austria; right wing extremism; research in antisemitism\nand genocide; denazification and reparations; social measures for Nazi victims\nafter 1945. [Weighting: 30%]<\/li><li>Knowledge and experience in conceiving, innovating, and\nimplementing documentary and communications projects. Knowledge and experience\nin completing research projects, as well as dissemination of their findings.\n[Weighting: 20%]<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Formal Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Completion of a doctoral\/PhD program, preferably in history, cultural\nscience, or social science. Mastery in reading and writing English and German\nat a discourse level. Additional language skills would be desirable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hiring is on a full time basis. Service begins January 1, 2023.\nRemuneration follows the Collective Agreement (Kollektivvertrag) of the\nEmployees of the Universities of October 1, 2009 in the pertinent version\n(paragraph 49.
